Thursday March 18 Morning: Where we are now:

The Fly is flying up from the edge of the pond towards the ‘higher reaches’ and the Spider. (She still feels affection for the Gadfly but doesn’t know where he is or what has become of him)

The Gadfly is flying round in circles over the pond thinking he has seen his true and awful soul in the Toad headed Carp, and indeed is himself the Toad Thing that caused all his panic in the first place (not knowing it was the Fly all the time.)and is full of shock, remorse and horror. Also half stoned from his encounter with the Mayflies in the Cuckoo Pintle Hotel.

The Spider is sitting in his ruined web, sucking his ruined mouth and looking at the trussed up Dragonfly who is helpless in a silk body bag. (Perhaps he mentions the toads head later). He is thinking of retiring as a predator and taking up a teaching post somewhere far away.

The Carp is showing off in the Pool below, terrorising anything and anyone who comes near him with his Toad head and his Gleaming Fangs.

To do:
Dispose of the Dragonfly and at the same time dispossess the Carp of Mask and Fangs and put him back in his place. (Mayflies float past dead in the water, with a wonderful smile on their faces. Mayfly spirits murmer in the reeds. Mayfly grubs/dragonfly larva in the mud..will find the fangs and have daydreams of ferocious greatness. A new generation stirs.

Bring the Gadfly and the Fly together, in love, in the presence of the Spider, a mentor and teacher.

Solve the Great Imponderables of the Pond.
